Suggested Writing Assignments and Classroom Discussion

  1. Compare and contrast the protests in Paris, Prague, and Chicago. What did the protesters have in common, and what differentiated them?

  2. Explain the failure of the three protest movements. Or, to put it another way, why did these "revolutions" fail?

  3. Describe what you learned about "reading" photographs and video clips from this module.

  4. As you've seen in this module, the political poster was one of the main methods of transmitting ideas in 1968. Draw your own political poster to depict graphically the demands of the protesters in one of the three cities. If you have time, draw a second poster that displays the ideas of those who opposed the protesters.
